Rated the #1 youth soccer tournament in the country in 2009, the Jefferson Cup invites around 700 teams to participate in 13 different field sites over a span of two weeks. In its 30th year of competition, the Jefferson Cup is expanding play from natural grass surfaces to include the 17-field SportsQuest complex featuring Shaw Sportexe synthetic turf, the largest in the world. Field site criteria is based on four premises: quality of playing surfaces, ensuring proper field sizes, amount of field space and convenience for age groups.
“This is one of the greatest honors in soccer,” said Shaw Sportexe Territory Manager and USL’s Richmond Kickers’ goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale. “The Jefferson Cup is one of the most competitive tournaments in the country. The fact that our fields were chosen among some of the top natural surfaces in the country is truly a compliment. It just proves that we have the best synthetic system reflective of the performance and safety of natural grass.”
The SportsQuest complex featuring Shaw Sportexe synthetic turf consists of 1.7 million square feet of PowerBlade® HP+, a system comprised of a monofilament fiber and rubber/sand infill mix. PowerBlade HP+ is engineered for high performance characteristics including both athlete/surface and ball/surface interactions, maximum cleat infill interaction and great aesthetic look.
The boys’ tournament spanned over a three day period from March 11-13. The girls’ tournament will take place this weekend. Over 700 teams total will participate from 35 States throughout the country.
